Human attention is a scarce resource and when digital systems become more and more ubiquitous and invasive it can simply become too much, causing stress and fatigue. Apart from designing systems that are more careful as to when to interrupt human agents and call for their attention, a complementary approach is to try to make the systems inform us in more subtle non-interruptive ways (“Peripheral Interaction”, Bakker, 2016). In this project we investigate if assembly tasks can be made simper by introducing barely visible guidance through head-worn Augmented Reality platforms.
