OL01 AR guided maintenance of a flexible automation cell

Background

Forward-looking companies aim to increase automated and digitalized production in order to stay competitive in the market. Research on unexpected production stops and the succeeding error recovery process is an area that any company could benefit at any automation level.

Aim/goal/research question

This thesis idea aims to integrate an AR aided guidance into an existing flexible automation cell (SMART cell) located at PTC. This guidance should be standardized for both preventive and corrective maintenance actions. Validation and verification of the work is expected to be shown at the SMART cell. Further, the assignment offers a unique opportunity to work in a creative environment.

Method

  • Familiarize with the topic and equipment
  • Inclusion of AR equipment into the SMART cell
  • AR aided guidance for corrective maintenance actions, both preventive and corrective
  • Validation and verification of the work at the SMART cell
  • Document and present results

Recommended past experience/interest

Strong interest in manufacturing and automation.

Other comments

This master thesis idea is considered as part of the Restart II project, as a collaboration of HV and GKN Aerospace. Although the Research Automation team from GKN Aerospace will support this thesis work, the student will be considered as academical student. Further, the assignment offers a unique opportunity to work in a creative environment.
